讲座内容提要:道德权威对于大国的外交政策具有重要的影响力。国家可以利用道德权威的力量来教化他国,从而获得外交影响力。冷战时期,道德权威在一国的外交政策中有时与物质力量一样起着极为重要的作用。尽管存在着完全不同的文化传统与政治历史,中国与美国在不同历史阶段上都扮演过“教化国家”的角色。历史上,占主导地位的国家利用道德权威教化他国的例子也比比皆是。然而,有迹象表明,教化他国在当今世界主要大国外交政策中地位已越来越小。当大国之间的竞争不再是关于善恶对错的意识形态竞争时,大国之间的关系也随之改变。一个不存在“教化国家”的全球化世界将会带来一个新的国际关系局面。

Peter Van Ness, PhD (Berkeley)
Professor, College of Asia and the Pacific, Australian National University
Member, Editorial Board, Critical Asian Studies; Member, Editorial Advisory Board of both Journal of Contemporary China and Asian Perspective; faculty member, Graduate School of International Studies, University of Denver (1966–1998); visiting appointments at ANU, University of Michigan, University of Tokyo, Keio University, and Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Chinese foreign policy, Sino-American relations, human rights, and Asia-Pacific security.
