General theme, topics and rationale for this conference:
The general theme of this conference is to academically exchange and promote Interdisciplinary Research on Long-term Care and Healthy Aging. The term “interdisciplinary research” used here means studies and exchanges among social, behavioral, biological and medical scientists interested in long-term care and healthy aging. We welcome presentations/papers on the following topics:
(1) Long-term care
♦ Long-term care models and management
♦ Economics of long-term care
♦ Equity, efficiency, housing and funding systems for long-term care
♦ Health, social and familial care integration
♦ International comparative analysis
♦ Personalization of the health care
♦ Technology and long-term care innovations
♦ Caregivers and workforce
♦ Public policy of nursing and long-term care
♦ Intergenerational transfer and long-term care
♦ Living arrangement and long-term care
(2) Effects of social, behavioral, genetic factors and their interactions on healthy aging and longevity;
(3) Pathway analysis and function annotations of healthy aging
(4) Determinants of bio-markers of healthy aging, their socioeconomic gradients and interactions with the genetic and environmental factors.
(5) Other topics related to the general theme of this conference.
Similar to our 2014 April 28-29 successful conference at Duke University, we will have 2 plenary sessions at the beginning and at the end of the conference, and the rest will be concurrent sessions: (a) long-term care; (b) genetic, gene-environment Interactions, pathway, functional and biomarkers analysis on healthy aging.
Why do we emphasize interdisciplinary research for our conference? Population aging worldwide, accompanied by the rapid growth of the oldest-old, is unavoidable. Numerous researches have shown that few diseases or health conditions are caused purely by biomedical and genetic factors; most are the result of interactions among social, behavioral, biomedical and genetic factors. However, cross-cutting research on this crucially important topic is very much underdeveloped. Clearly, there is an urgent public health need for interdisciplinary research to investigate the effects of the social, behavioral, biomedical and genetic factors and their interactions on healthy aging. In the meantime, we want to explore potential interdisciplinary research collaborations for developing and testing innovations in long-term care and healthy aging.
