Professor Hong Mi Got Invited to Attend and Make Keynote Speech for Virtual Expert Group Meeting on “Methods for the World Population Prospects 2021 and Beyond”

 During 6th to 8th of April, 2020, Professor Hong Mi, Director ofLaboratory for Pop.Big Data & Policy Simulation, Public Affair School of Zhejiang Universityand Executive Deputy Director of Center for Non-Traditional Security & Peaceful Development Studies (NTS-PD) of Zhejiang University,got invited by United Nations Population Division ofUNPD to attend virtual expert group meeting on “Methods for the World Population Prospects 2021 and beyond”and make keynote speech with the topic of Using the Equivalent Construction to Estimate Complete Life tables for the Developing Countries Mortality Database (DCMD).



 More than 70 experts and scholars on demography from 11 countries including USA, Britan, German, Chin, Chili and New Zealand attend this meeting.The purpose of the meeting is to provide a platform for experts and scholars from all countries to share and discuss the models, methods and experiences for the development and evaluation of population indicators (child, adult and elderly mortality, fertility, net migration rate, etc.), focusing on the selection of several methods for the preparation of World Population Prospects 2021 by the United Nations Population Division.              The theme of the meeting is “Research on the World Population Prospects 2021 methodology”, which covers the modeling and evaluation of fertility and mortality in different situations, as well as the best way to achieve population balance.

 In his speech, professor Hong Miintroduced Developing Countries Mortality Database and tree-parameter life table model created by him,and focused on sharing the methods and models of building a complete life table using the equivalent structure.Patrick Gerland, director of United Nations Population Division, andhis fellow Thomas SpoorenbergandNan Liraised questions to professor Mi and change their ideas.

 Ma Qiyini and Tang Xiaotong, students of Laboratory for Pop.Big Data & Policy Simulation, Public Affair School of Zhejiang University, also attended the whole meeting.
