Professor Qian Wenrong elected as the Vice President of China's Foreign Agriculture Economic Research Association

On August 18, 2020, the Eighth Representative Conference of China’s Foreign Agriculture Economic Research Association (the Association) and its 2020 Academic Symposium was held under the collective sponsorship of the Association, the Rural Development Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Anhui Agricultural University, and the School of Economics and Management of Anhui Agricultural University.

The conference was about Agricultural and Rural Development in a Post-well-off Society—International experiences and Transformation Direction. Over 300 experts and scholars from nearly 80 universities and research institutions of homes and abroad attended the meeting, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Zhejiang University, Tsinghua University, and the Renmin University of China. The meeting was held at Beijing and Hefei, with the main venue being set at the Institute of Rural Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the sub-venue at the School of Economics and Management of Anhui Agricultural University. The conference was also put online to connect participants from the two places. The main venue hosted the Representative Conference, and the sub-venue parallelly hosted the Symposium.

The meeting passed the Resolution of the Association’s Election Procedure and voted for the position of the Executive Council and the Board of Supervisors. Professor Qian Wenrong, Vice Dean of School of Public Administration of Zhejiang University and Dean of China Rural Development Research Institute, was elected Vice President of the Association.

The Association was established and registered at the Ministry of Civil Affairs at the onset of the Reform and Opening Up period. It was put under the management of China’s Academy of Social Sciences and its Rural Development department, studying foreign agricultural economy, public policy, and organizational cooperation. The Association is a nonprofit academic organization supported by scholars and practitioners of the field. It aims to promote the research on foreign agricultural economies and to facilitate international agriculture trade and cooperation.
