On June 8, 2022, researcher Gong binlei of the School of Public Affairs of Zhejiang University was elected AAEA China Section Chair-Elect by the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA). Gong binlei's term of office is three years, starting from the AAEA annual meeting held in California in 2022.

The American association of Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA) is one of the largest economic societies in the United States and one of the most important societies in the same field in the world. It has a wide and important influence in academia and politics. It holds its annual meeting in the United States in July and August every year. About 1500 scholars from all over the world gather to discuss academic frontiers and expand academic relations. AAEA focuses on agricultural economics, development economics, environmental and resource economics, applied economics and other disciplines. The American Journal of agricultural economics, a journal sponsored by the society, is the top journal in the field of global agricultural economics. The members of the society mainly come from scholars and experts active in academic circles, government policy-making departments and industrial and commercial departments all over the world.

Since its establishment in 2009, AAEA China Section aims to gather economists worldwide who study issues of agriculture, countryside and peasants in China, promote global AAEA members to carry out exchanges and cooperation on issues related to China's agricultural economy, and provide an exchange platform for young members engaged in research in this field. For more than a decade, the branch has actively participated in the organization of AAEA annual meetings and related academic activities, and has had a wide impact in the field of agricultural and applied economics at home and abroad.
