The Department of Government at Zhejiang University offers undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs in four subfields:  Theory in Public Administration and Government Innovation, Government and Social Governance, Organization Development and Performance Evaluation, and Non-Traditional Security and Crisis Management. Our faculty have earned national recognition for teaching and research on pressing issues of local governance and government innovation.

 

Currently, the department has 12 professors, 7 associate professors, and 1 lecturer. Among them, we have two national award winners, Cheung Kong Scholars (MOE). Our faculty are strongly committed to excellent teaching and innovative scholarship. In recent years, our faculty have published in leading Chinese and English journals and with leading university presses, and some of them have ranked among the most productive in the nation.  The faculty have actively participated in the international academic exchange around the world. We also have built close ties with central government and various levels of local governments in China, which enables us to be involved in the policy making process.

 

We offer B.A. degree in Public Administration, as well as M.A. and PhD degrees both in Public Administration and Non-Traditional Security. Our PhD program trains new generations of scholars to tackle some of the most pressing conundrums in governance and government innovation. Students receive hands-on training with faculty in cutting-edge research projects. Our master’s program is one of the most diverse programs at Zhejiang University. It not only recruits academically talented students in China, but also attracts students from most regions of the world. In particular, our Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program in Public Administration is the first-tier of all-English programs in China. Nearly 200 undergraduate students who major or minor in Public Administration benefit from our high quality curriculums, such as Political Science, Ethics, Classics of Public Administration, Research Methodology in Public Administration, Public Management and Human Resource Management.
