Faculties in the MSW education center are scholars from the department of social security and risk management, the department of sociology, the department of government management, the department of politics, and the department of urban development, whose focus of research is studies of social welfare and social policies. Currently, the center has 20 full-time faculty members, including 7 professors and 13 associate professors, whereas many of them have been graduated from foreign universities and bring experiences of overseas education and field practices. The center imparts education in three directions of social policies and welfare, community work and community development, elderly care, public health, and anti-poverty policies. It also provides the basic courses in social security, sociology, politics, public administration.

Over the past three years, faculties in the center have carried on72 research projects, including 4 projects from the National Natural Science Fund of China, 3 projects from the National Social Science Fund of China, and 19 projects from Ministry of Civil Affairs of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Ministry of Finance of China, and Bureau of Civil Affairs of Zhejiang Province, Disabled Persons’ Federation of Zhejiang Province, and Steering Committee of Elderly Care. The faculties have published 18 books and 122 articles in English and Chinese journals, including 10 in the top journals and 20 in the first-class journals, 24 in SCI or SSCI journals, together with 9 research reports. These publications cover a wide scope of issues referring to social security and social policy, civil affairs and social organizations, community management and social construction, health insurance and public service, aging studies and eldercare, the disabled service, and poverty reduction.

In teaching and field practice, we aim to equip students with excellent professional quality and practical skills by helping them to develop their capability of analysis on social problems and welfare-related issues, providing training to strengthen their understanding of social policy and social management. We will also facilitate students to explore chances of learning through international training programs and international conferences, publish articles in reputable journals, and participate in research competitions. These practices will enable students to develop a strong capacity of social management and social work, to effectively apply the knowledge and skills in their careers in human resource management and cultural development. in administrative and welfare management in government and social service agencies and corporations.
